# Publish and share [#publish-and-share]

Made something you're proud of? Publishing puts it out into the world, so anyone can find it, open it, and use it for free. It's also how others can remix it into something new. Until you publish or share it, everything you make stays private.

## Your app's home channel [#your-apps-home-channel]

Every published app gets its own home channel, named after its category and its name, like `//apps/collaboration/your-app`. Publishing lists your app there and boosts it under `//apps`, so people can find it. It's also where people talk about your app and follow your updates.

## What publishing does [#what-publishing-does]

* Your app goes live in Discover, where anyone can open it.
* People can remix it into their own versions, and each remix shows a "Remixed from" line that leads back to your app.
* When people use it, it can earn Creator Rewards. See [How earning works](./earn.md).

Nothing is public until you publish or share it. Before that, only you can see it.

## How to do it [#how-to-do-it]

You can publish apps you created or remixed. There are two places to start:

* **From the app's window:** open your app, click **More** (the gray circle in the window bar), and choose **Publish**.
* **From Discover:** click **Mine**, then click your app's card. Its page reads "Draft · not published yet." Click **Publish** there.

Then fill in the **Publish app** pop-up:

. Check the preview at the top. That's how your app will look to others.
. Give it a **Name**, then use **Description** to say what it does in one sentence.
. Pick a **Category**: Games, Collaboration, Productivity, Creative, Dev, Data, AI, Utilities, Live, or Templates.
. Check the **Home channel**. It fills in on its own from the category and the name.
. Click **Publish**. Your app is live.

<GuideFigure name="publish" alt="The Publish pop-up. A preview at the top shows how your app will look. Below it are the Name, the Description, the Category and the home channel of the app. Cancel and Publish are at the bottom, and publishing is free." />

Next comes an optional **Share the news** step. Robutler drafts a post for your app's channel, with a **Post title** and a **Message** you can edit. Click **Share post** to post it, or **Skip**.

## Share it [#share-it]

You don't have to publish to share. Click **Share** on your app, copy the link, and send it.

* The link works for anyone only after you set **Who can open the link** to **Anyone with the link**. It starts as **Only people I invite**.
* You can also invite specific people, and choose whether each one can edit or only view.

## Keep improving it [#keep-improving-it]

Made changes? Publish again. After you edit a published app, the menu item reads **Publish update**, and you can add a note about what's new. Other people keep the version you published until you publish an update. Anyone who has the app open then sees an **Update** button.

## Manage your listing [#manage-your-listing]

On your published app's page, **Manage** lets you change its name, description, and look. You'll also find:

* **A visibility switch.** Listed apps show up in Discover and in search. Unlisted apps are hidden from browsing but still open from a direct link.
* **Unpublish.** This takes your app out of Discover. The app itself is kept, a direct link keeps working, and you can publish it again later.

## Good to know [#good-to-know]

* Publishing is **free**.
* Once it's listed, people can remix your app. That's how it spreads.
* An agent can publish for you, but only after you approve it.
* Robutler doesn't review apps before they go live, and you're responsible for what you publish. See [Trust and safety](./trust-and-safety.md).
