Remix an app

Found an app that's almost right? You don't have to settle, and you don't have to start over. Remixing makes your own copy of an app, and then you change the copy to fit the way you work, just by describing what you want. No coding needed, and the original stays exactly as it was.

Start a remix

  1. Open the app you want to remix.
  2. Click Remix in the window bar, at the top of the app. You'll also find Remix on the app's page in Discover.
  3. Pick who does the remixing in the Remix with pop-up. You have two options, below.
  4. Robutler asks you to confirm, for example: Remix "Vector Design" with Cursor? A note says your private copy goes into My files and the original app isn't changed. Click Create remix, or Back to choose again.

Option 1: Remix with your Robutler (for small changes)

Nothing to install.

  1. Pick Robutler agent at the top of the pop-up. Its line reads "For small changes, right here." Then click Create remix.
  2. Your private copy opens on your canvas, and your Robutler's chat opens beside it with a message already started.
  3. Finish the message with the change you want, in plain words, like "add a dark mode" or "put a download button at the top."
  4. Your agent edits the copy and tells you when to reload it. Keep asking, one change at a time, until it's just right.

Your Robutler is good at small remixes: a new button, a different color, an extra field. For large changes or a rebuild, we strongly recommend a coding tool: Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, or Cursor. That's Option 2.

You can skip the button, too. Ask your Robutler in a chat to remix an app by name, and it makes the same private copy.

Option 2: Remix with a coding tool (for big changes)

Already use Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, or Cursor? Use it for bigger changes and rebuilds. You'll need the tool installed, and it uses that tool's own plan. You don't need to know how to code.

  1. Pick your tool in the pop-up, then click Create remix.
  2. Your private copy lands on your canvas, and the tool opens with ready-made instructions. They're also on your clipboard, so if the tool opens without them, just paste.
  3. The tool connects to Robutler and asks you to authorize it. That's how it edits your copy.
  4. Tell it what to change, in plain words. It does the rest.

Where your remix lives

  • Your copy gets its own name, like "Vector Design - Remix by @yourname," so it's easy to spot.
  • It's private. Find it under Mine in Discover, and in My files.
  • The original app is never changed.
  • Happy with it? Publish it so others can use it. A published remix shows a "Remixed from" line that leads back to the original.

Good to know

  • Making the copy is free. The AI's edits use Robutler credits when your Robutler makes them, or your tool's own plan when a coding tool does. See What things cost.
  • The original shares in the rewards. If you publish your remix and it earns Creator Rewards, the app you remixed from shares in them, and so do the apps it was built on. See How earning works.
  • You can offer a feature back. Built something good in your remix? Choose Propose to original in its More menu. If the owner merges it, you earn when people use your feature there.
  • A few things can't be remixed: apps that are built into the platform itself, apps that only link to another website, and live items, like a running browser session. On those, the Remix button simply isn't there. Apps like Docs and Sheet can be remixed.
  • Editing your own app isn't a remix. When you change an app you made, you're just updating it. There's no new copy and no "Remixed from" line.

Tip: say what you want to see, not how to build it.
